I thought it might be fun to do a little imaginary Q&A. I say imaginary, but it's really more like historical fiction. These are questions that graphic designers are asked over and over. I can't speak for everyone, but these are the answers that I typically give.
With Father's Day coming up on June 16, I thought I would help out all the would-be gift givers who have technology craving fathers in their lives. My plan was to scour the internet looking for great gift ideas for geeky fathers like myself. As it turns out, I just had to scour ThinkGeek. Nonetheless, I still narrowed down and categorized some of what I consider the cream of the crop. Whether his obsession is Star Wars or Coffee or even Cooking, there is always something techy for dear, old, socially awkward dad.
One of my favorite opportunities as a designer is logo creation. I absolutely love the process of expressing a client's identity into a single, versatile graphic.
However, it comes with many challenges. One of the greatest challenges is deciding on whether to create a simple or complex logo. Some clients like the idea of a simple, versatile logo that could easily be printed onto t-shirts, business cards, or notepads. There are also clients who like the idea of a complex logo, that illustrates all that their business has to offer.
When looking deeper into this question, some of these tendencies may be influenced by brand confidence. The idea of a having a simple logo to reflect your complex company can seem like you are not properly conveying your company and causing your brand identity to be unrecognizable. Conversely, the desire for a larger, complex logo often stems from the wish to encompass everything your business has to offer and to be noticed by potential clients in the process. However, it all begs the question: Is bigger better?
Last week Kendra Harrell shared with us about Love Gives Way. I am so excited to support them that I wanted to throw a little more promotion their way. They've got some super cool t-shirts, and I'm giving one away! Remember that a portion of the proceeds goto support Wellspring Living.

I'm grateful to be able to guest blog for Daniel this week and share some of my heart with you. Before we jump into that—let's get real—how awesome, servant-hearted, hard-working and kind is Daniel, y'all? Daniel and my friendship started over some design emails and somehow turned into a connection over our advocacy for justice for those who have been sexually exploited. A little bit of all of that is what I want to share with you today.
I was raised in Albany and decided my senior year to pursue a degree in Graphic Design at SCAD–Atlanta. While studying at SCAD I subsequently fell in love with this beautiful, lively city. At first my heart for Atlanta began with an adoration of it's skyscrapers and skyline—not as much the traffic, that's a part of our relationship that will never mend. Since moving here my knowledge of the city and it's communities has shifted from an adoration to something that I have loved to invest in.
